Skyrim Adult Mods: SexLab, CBBE 3BA, and the Complete LoversLab Stack

Skyrim has the largest adult modding community in PC gaming, with fifteen years of LoversLab production on a unified SexLab framework. The full stack: which version to use (SE vs AE), SKSE, CBBE 3BA body replacers, CBPC physics, SexLab, content mods, install order, and why setups break.

Skyrim has the largest adult modding community in PC gaming. Fifteen years of accumulated production on LoversLab, a unified animation framework in SexLab, thousands of content mods, and a modder base that has outlasted Bethesda's own attention to the game. No other title comes close to this ecosystem's depth.

Why Skyrim

Skyrim's dominance in adult modding comes from a specific combination: a moddable game with a rich open world and humanoid NPCs, released at the right time, with a modding community that built infrastructure instead of just content.

SexLab, the adult animation framework, was designed from the start as a shared platform. Content mods register animations with it, query it for actors, and let it handle scene orchestration. The result is a self-reinforcing ecosystem: more content mods work because SexLab exists, more players use SexLab because there are content mods, more modders write for SexLab because that is where the players are.

Fifteen years of that cycle produces what LoversLab has: animation libraries with thousands of clips, quest mods with full voice acting, body physics systems more sophisticated than anything in vanilla Skyrim, and an active community still writing new content in 2026. The Fallout 4 and Cyberpunk scenes are real but smaller. Nothing else is in the same category.

Which Version to Use: SE vs AE

This is the first question and the source of most new-player confusion.

Skyrim Special Edition (SE): the 64-bit remaster released in 2016. The modding platform. This is the version most LoversLab guides are written for.

Skyrim Anniversary Edition (AE): released November 2021. Not a separate game; it is Skyrim SE with Creation Club content bundled in. The problem: the 1.6.x update changed the game executable, which broke SKSE64 and, by extension, every SKSE-dependent mod including SexLab.

In 2021–2022 this was a serious disruption. In 2026, SKSE64 for the current AE build exists and most major mods have been updated. But LoversLab still carries a significant amount of content marked "SE only" because maintainers have not updated or abandoned the mod.

Practical guidance for 2026: - Buy Skyrim SE / AE on Steam (they are the same purchase now). - Allow it to update normally. Use the current SKSE64 build (verify the version matches your game build on the SKSE site). - If a specific mod you want is SE-only and hasn't been updated, check whether a community patch exists on LoversLab. - Do not manually downgrade to 1.5.97 unless a specific large mod list requires it. The maintenance burden of running a downgraded version is not worth it for most users.

The AE disruption is largely resolved. Most content you find in active development on LoversLab works on the current build.

The Core Stack

Everything depends on these five components. Install them in this order before adding any content.

Mod Organizer 2 (MO2). The standard mod manager for Skyrim adult setups. Uses a virtual filesystem that keeps your game directory clean and makes load order management practical. Vortex works but MO2 is what guides assume and what support forums understand.

SKSE64 (Skyrim Script Extender). Hooks into the Skyrim executable and extends the scripting engine. SexLab, SkyUI, and the majority of complex mods require it. Download from skseplug.com (the official SKSE site). Match the version to your exact game build. There is a version string in the SKSE readme that must match the Skyrim version shown in the game's main menu.

SkyUI. Required by SexLab. Replaces Skyrim's inventory interface with a keyboard/mouse-friendly version. Adds the MCM (Mod Configuration Menu) system that most adult mods use for their settings. Non-negotiable dependency.

Your body replacer. Pick one before installing anything else: body replacers replace the character mesh, and content mods are built to fit specific meshes. Mixing body replacers causes visible seams and broken content. See the next section.

SexLab Framework SE. The adult animation engine. Install after the body replacer. It registers itself with Skyrim's animation system and provides the API that content mods use. Not content itself; it is the scaffolding.

Body Replacers: CBBE 3BA vs BHUNP

Choose one. Do not mix them.

CBBE (Caliente's Beautiful Bodies Enhancer) is the most widely supported female body replacer for Skyrim SE. The majority of content mod armor replacers and body texture mods are built for CBBE.

CBBE 3BA (3BBB Body Advanced) is the current dominant choice for adult setups specifically. It adds a three-bone breast physics skeleton compatible with CBPC and HDT-SMP, which is required for body physics to work correctly. Most LoversLab content released in the last three years targets 3BA. Start here unless a specific mod requires otherwise.

BHUNP (Bodyslide and UUNP) is an alternative body with different proportions and mesh. It has its own physics support and a compatibility ecosystem, but smaller than CBBE 3BA. Choose BHUNP if a specific mod or body shape requires it.

BodySlide and Outfit Studio. Required alongside whichever body replacer you install. BodySlide lets you customize body proportions using sliders and builds the body mesh at your chosen shape. Run BodySlide before launching the game after any body or outfit mod changes.

Body Physics: CBPC and HDT-SMP

Physics simulation for cloth and body. Both are widely used; most setups install both.

CBPC (CBP + Collisions) handles body physics using CPU collision detection. Simulates breast and butt movement with collision support so body parts interact correctly during animations. Performance-light and highly compatible. This is the standard for body physics in SexLab scenes.

HDT-SMP (Skinned Mesh Physics) handles cloth physics: hair, cloaks, skirts, and more advanced soft-body simulation. More CPU/GPU intensive than CBPC. Most users install HDT-SMP for hair and cloth physics while keeping CBPC for body physics.

Both require SKSE64 and are installed as standard mods through MO2.

SexLab Framework

SexLab Framework SE is the adult animation engine. What it does:

  • Manages a library of registered animations that content mods can call
  • Handles actor positioning and scene staging
  • Provides alignment tools so animations place actors correctly at the scene location
  • Exposes an MCM for configuration (nude body detection, consent settings, performance options)
  • Provides the API that content mods use to trigger scenes without implementing their own animation system

SexLab is not content. Installing SexLab alone adds nothing visible to your game. It is the engine that content mods build on. After installing it, open the MCM in-game and run the Install procedure. SexLab registers animations and configures itself.

SexLab Light SE is a smaller build for users who want lower script load or a quicker install. Functionally similar but with fewer bundled animations. Most users should use the full Framework.

Content Mods: What to Install

LoversLab's Top Downloads are the practical guide. The most-downloaded mods have earned that position through years of community use. Some reliable categories:

Quest and scenario mods. Amorous Adventures adds NPC-specific adult dialogue and scene triggers integrated with Skyrim's existing character writing. Interesting NPCs compatibility makes it richer. These feel most natural in the game world.

Combat outcome mods. SexLab Defeat and Submit add outcomes to combat: defeat scenarios where the player or NPCs face adult consequences from combat. These integrate with SexLab's scene system.

Companion and NPC interaction mods. Flower Girls SE adds relationship-based adult interaction with specific NPCs. Less intrusive than full SexLab scene mods; some users prefer it for integration quality.

World and faction mods. Mods that add adult mechanics to specific Skyrim locations and factions. Devious Devices adds a restraint and bondage item system with associated quests, one of the most extensively developed LoversLab projects for Skyrim.

Animation packs. SLAL (SexLab Animation Loader) packs add animations to SexLab's library. More animations give content mods more variety to call. Several large animation packs exist covering different scene types.

The LoversLab Skyrim SE section has thousands of mods. Sort by downloads to find what the community actually uses.

Installation Order

Order matters. Deviating from this sequence causes the majority of new-player problems.

Step 1: Install Skyrim SE/AE from Steam. Launch it once vanilla to let it initialize.

Step 2: Install SKSE64. Download the correct version for your game build. Extract into the game root directory (where SkyrimSE.exe lives). Do not install through MO2; it goes in the game folder directly.

Step 3: Install Mod Organizer 2. Configure it to point to your Skyrim SE installation. All further mods install through MO2.

Step 4: Install SkyUI through MO2.

Step 5: Install CBBE 3BA through MO2. Run the BodySlide installer, choose your preset or create one, and batch-build all outfits.

Step 6: Install CBPC and HDT-SMP through MO2.

Step 7: Install SexLab Framework SE through MO2. Launch the game, open MCM, run the Install procedure inside SexLab's MCM.

Step 8: Install content mods. Add SLAL animation packs before content mods that depend on them. Run LOOT (Load Order Optimisation Tool) to sort your load order automatically, then review against any mod-specific ordering requirements.

Step 9: Launch always through SKSE64: use the SKSE launcher or configure MO2 to launch via SKSE. Launching through Steam or the vanilla launcher disables SKSE.

The Real Cost: Maintenance and Fragility

The Skyrim adult mod setup is technically complex and ongoing:

SKSE version-locking. Every Skyrim update from Bethesda can break SKSE. When SKSE breaks, everything built on it breaks: SexLab, SkyUI, and every content mod that uses the MCM. The typical response is to delay updating or to wait for the SKSE team (unpaid volunteers) to release a matching build. This disrupted the community multiple times with the 1.6.x AE updates.

Load order conflicts. A large mod list accumulates conflicts. Two mods that modify the same NPC, location, or script can produce crashes or broken behavior that takes hours to isolate. xEdit (SSEEdit) is the tool for resolving these.

BodySlide rebuilds. Every new outfit mod requires a BodySlide batch-build to fit your body preset. Miss this step and outfits clip through the body mesh.

Maintenance after updates. When Bethesda patches Skyrim, the standard advice is "do not update yet." The community waits for SKSE and critical mods to catch up. Some users disable Steam auto-update for Skyrim permanently to avoid surprise breakage.

Solo by nature. The NPCs you interact with are Skyrim's AI: Lydia, random bandits, quest characters. No other players. The entire adult modding ecosystem is built for single-player experience with AI actors.

Alternatives

Skyrim adult mods give you a rich open-world RPG with fifteen years of accumulated content, played alone with AI NPCs. Different people want different things from here.

XChat is an adult social world. Free, Windows and Linux, ray-tracing GPU required (RTX 2070 / RX 6700 XT / Arc A750 or better). A persistent 3D world built for adult social interaction with real players, not Skyrim's AI NPCs. No mod stack to maintain, no SKSE to version-match, no load order to debug. Download XChat free.

Fallout 4 adult mods use the same general ecosystem (AAF instead of SexLab, F4SE instead of SKSE) in a different game world. The scene is smaller than Skyrim's, and F4SE has the same version-locking problem, worse in fact: Bethesda's 2024 next-gen update broke the AAF ecosystem for months. Fallout: New Vegas adult mods avoid this entirely since Bethesda stopped updating that game.

The Witcher 3 adult mods share a similar adult RPG audience with a different combat and narrative focus.

3DXChat is the established adult social MMO at $9.99/month with a larger community, user-built rooms, and Lovense integration. Windows only.

FAQ

What is SexLab for Skyrim?

SexLab Framework SE is the adult animation engine for Skyrim Special Edition: the foundation that content mods build on. It registers an animation library, handles actor positioning and scene orchestration, and provides the API that mods use to trigger adult scenes. SexLab itself is not content; it is the scaffolding. You install SexLab first, then content mods on top of it.

Do I need SKSE for Skyrim adult mods?

Yes. SKSE64 is required by SexLab, SkyUI (which SexLab requires), and the majority of advanced mods. It hooks into the game executable and extends the scripting engine beyond what Bethesda shipped. Download from the official SKSE site and match the version exactly to your installed game build.

Should I use Skyrim SE or AE for adult mods?

In 2026, both work. Anniversary Edition is the current version of Skyrim SE. The AE label refers to a content update, not a separate game. The 2021/2022 AE update disrupted SKSE compatibility but that has largely been resolved. Use the current version, match your SKSE64 build to your game version, and check LoversLab mod pages for any SE-only content that hasn't been updated.

What is CBBE 3BA?

CBBE 3BA (3BBB Body Advanced) is the current dominant female body replacer for Skyrim adult setups. It extends the original CBBE mesh with a three-bone breast physics skeleton compatible with CBPC and HDT-SMP, enabling realistic body physics during animations. Install it through BodySlide and batch-build outfits to fit your chosen body shape. Most LoversLab content released in the last three years targets 3BA.

Why does Skyrim crash with adult mods?

The most common causes: SKSE version mismatch (your SKSE build does not match your game build), a load order conflict between two mods that modify the same asset, or installing mods out of order (body replacer after content mods, or SexLab before SkyUI). Use LOOT to sort load order, verify SKSE version against the in-game version string, and install in the sequence described above. The MO2 + LOOT combination resolves most ordering issues automatically.

Is Skyrim adult modding multiplayer?

No. Skyrim is a single-player game. All NPCs are AI-controlled. Together SE (a multiplayer mod) exists but adult mods are not built for it. If you want explicit adult content with real other players, that requires a purpose-built platform. Skyrim's modding ecosystem has no path to that.

Where are Skyrim adult mods?

LoversLab is the primary hub. The vast majority of Skyrim adult content is hosted there. Nexus Mods hosts some mods within their content policies (body replacers, some physics mods) but adult content specifically is on LoversLab. The LoversLab Skyrim SE section is the starting point.
